Choke
...And the typographer, like a scribe, normally aims to weave the text as evenly as possible. – Robert Bringhurst, page 25
This peice is about the harshness of internet sentiment and it’s raw, unedited anonymity. Youtube is an internet watering hole where people from around the world can watch something and immediately leave remarks depending upon the popularity of the video. I used a text of a man that is almost choking to death live on air. I wanted to showcase how the internet community reacted and how that manifested in a conversational format of comments. I wanted to break the typographic texture with an image of darkness and secrecy. I wanted my work to hide truths and allow for new emotional discoveries. I changed the traditional evenness of color with line spacing and layered type. I moved words and smashed letters together. I blacked out type and pulled quotes. I repositioned feedback and ignored hierarchy. The type color really started to convey the emotion and rudeness that I was looking for.
